Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State has summoned traditional rulers in the state to a meeting over last Monday’s attacks on four villages in Numan Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Bindow, who also cancelled the weekly State Executive Council meeting yesterday, said he will order a probe of the incident. The governor’s declaration came as casualty figure is reported to have risen to 60 from the initial 45. While commiserating with the families of the victims, he called for restraint, assuring of his government’s commitment to bringing the killers to justice. There were conflicting figures of the casualties on Tuesday, as the Police said 30 persons, mostly women and children, were killed, while residents said no fewer than 45 bodies were buried. However, the North-East Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Associa-tion, Mafindi Danburam, said yesterday that about 60 victims had died, warning that the figure might rise. Bindow also visited victims of Mubi’s mosque bomb blast, Yola Specialist Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yola, to commiserate with victims. assured that his government will provide adequate medical support for survivors and those injured in Numan Bachamam militia attack, which claimed the lives of over 50 children and women.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of FMC, Yola, Professor Awwal Mohammad, said 16 victims of Mubi attack were received by the Centre, adding that those with serious injuries were operated upon and their condition stable.
